In an attempt to accommodate the new passenger traffic, Stapleton opened up 24 gates on the newly constructed concourse E. Concourse E would only be used for a little under 10 years, but with the overcapacity issues, the new gates and ramp space were necessary. The image above shows part of the construction of the concourse, which opened in 1988, and the interior photograph below shows the new perspective on terminal design, focusing more on open space and aesthetics rather than just function.
